Virginia L. Summey is a historian and Faculty Fellow in the Lloyd International Honors College at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She received her B.A. in Political Science and History from Catawba College, her M.A. in History and a post-baccalaureate in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of Montana, and her Ph.D. in U.S. History and a post-baccalaureate in African-American and African Diaspora Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her research and areas of expertise include Greensboro and North Carolina history, political and legal history, the U.S. South, African-American history, and Women’s history. Her biography of pioneering judge Elreta Melton Alexander will be released by the University of Georgia Press in 2021.
